ST. CROIX — Police arrested a man on Monday night after he choked his girlfriend to the point where she could no longer breathe, because she refused to let him use her vehicle, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n

According to Mr. Dratte, on Monday at about 9:40 p.m., the 911 emergency call center dispatched officers to the\u00a0Louis E. Brown Villas Housing Community in Frederiksted, to investigate an assault that had occurred.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival to the scene, officers met with the female victim, who stated that she had gotten into an argument with her boyfriend, who resides with her, after declining his request to use her vehicle.<\/p>\n

The victim stated that her boyfriend then pushed her against a wall, grabbed her by the neck and began choking her until she could no longer breathe. The suspect, named Atnelle Harris, then left the apartment, only to return and started arguing with the victim again — this time in the bedroom. Mr. Harris, 23, again grabbed his girlfriend by the neck and started choking her. The forensic unit processed the scene and photographed visible red marks to the victim’s throat area, according to Mr. Dratte.<\/p>\n

Mr. Harris was given a domestic violence charge of second degree assault, processed, and taken to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending his advise -of-rights hearing.<\/p>\n
