AT&T has upgraded its cell sites throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands, announced the firm this afternoon. The upgrades will see residents experiencing faster upload and download speeds on their mobile devices, according to\u00a0Kelly Layne Starling, AT&T’s senior public relations manager for South Florida and the U.S. Virgin Islands.<\/p>\n

“This latest upgrade is part of AT&T\u2019s continued focus on delivering an exceptional network experience for USVI customers,” Ms. Starling said. In August, the firm upgraded several cell sites in St. Thomas<\/a><\/span> to facilitate more network traffic, giving customers improved reliability and overall network performance.<\/p>\n

The telecommunications giant, lacking ownership of any of the shows that it delivers through its various businesses, has agreed to buy Time Warner for $85.4 billion, creating a new colossus capable of both producing content and distributing it to millions with wireless phones, broadband subscriptions and satellite TV connections.<\/p>\n

The proposed deal is likely to spur yet more consolidation among media companies, which have already looked to partners to get bigger.<\/p>\n

AT&T and Time Warner said both of their boards unanimously approved the deal.<\/p>\n
