ST. CROIX — One week following the arrest of a Bureau of Corrections officer for attempting to smuggle marijuana and other prison contraband into the Golden Grove Correctional Facility, another officer was caught, arrested and jailed pending her advise-of-rights hearing — doing the same thing.<\/p>\n

The Consortium learned of the incident on Sunday. Mr. Dratte told this publication that the suspect, 26-year-old Kesha Belgrave<\/a><\/span>, was arrested on November 20 after being caught smuggling contraband and a cellphone into the prison.<\/p>\n

She was unable to post bail of $10,000, Mr. Dratte said, and was remanded to the facility’s detention center pending her advise-of-rights hearing.<\/p>\n

On November 13, the V.I.P.D. announced that a corrections officer —\u00a029-year-old Falak Umrani<\/a><\/span>\u00a0—\u00a0 was detained by another corrections officer and later arrested by police at the Golden Grove Correctional Facility, after she was found to be in possession of prison contraband, to include marijuana, a cellphone and cellphone charger, as well as\u00a0drug paraphernalia.<\/p>\n

Ms. Umrani\u00a0hid the items on her person and in her bag, according to Mr. Dratte. She attempted to smuggle into the prison approximately 1.5oz (45 grams) of marijuana.<\/p>\n

Bureau of Corrections Director Rick Mullgrav said the prison has seen increased security under his leadership, and decried such behavior at the facility.\u00a0\u201cThis kind of behavior is most unfortunate and is not going to be tolerated,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have taken significant steps in recent months to prevent contraband from entering our prisons.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
