The Virgin Islands Certified Public Manager\u00ae (CPM) Program is now accepting applications for its 2017-2018 Colleague Group, Government House announced Friday.<\/p>\n
The Certified Public Manager\u00ae (CPM) program is a nationally accredited comprehensive management development program open to managers in federal, state, and local government agencies. The V.I. CPM is also open to managers in non-profit and private sector organizations. The program\u2019s primary goal is to improve the performance of public sector managers and the organizational performance of state, local and federal governments. The V.I. CPM program is sponsored by the Division of Personnel (DOP) and the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) and delivered by UVI\u2019s Institute for Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness (ILOE).<\/p>\n
The program is designed around seven core competency areas which are set by the National Certified Public Manager\u00ae Consortium, the accrediting body of all CPM programs. Training in these seven competencies is included in the CPM classes: Personal and Organizational Integrity; Managing Work; Leading People; Developing Self; Systemic Integration; Public Service Focus; and Change Leadership. VI CPM participants also complete an applied project (capstone project). The capstone project is typically a real world problem faced in the CPM participant\u2019s agency that would benefit from a systematic application of the principles taught in the classroom.<\/p>\n
Managers and supervisors can complete the V.I. CPM\u00ae Program in 14 months as part of a cohort or \u201ccolleague group\u201d. This group attends classes collectively, three (3) days per month, becoming Certified Public Managers together. CPM classes are held on St. Thomas and St. Croix at the University of the Virgin Islands. The 2017-2018 Colleague Group of the CPM Program begins in February 2017.<\/p>\n
To be considered for participation in the V.I. CPM program, an applicant must currently be a manager or supervisor within a local or federal government agency, non-profit organization, or private sector business in the U.S. Virgin Islands and have a minimum of four (4) years of management\/supervisory experience.<\/p>\n
