ST. CROIX —\u00a0Royal Caribbean\u2019s Azamara Quest will be making an unscheduled stop in St. Croix today, thanks to inclement weather at its original port of call, according to former Senator Kenneth Gittens.<\/p>\n

The ship will arrive at the Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility in Frederiksted at 8:00 a.m. with 677 passengers on board, giving its visitors and crew an opportunity to explore and enjoy the unique attractions of St. Croix until it departs at 5:00 p.m., according to a press release issued by the Virgin Islands Port Authority on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The ship docking here may be a result of efforts put in by Mr. Gittens in March of last year, while at\u00a0the 2016 Seatrade Cruise Global conference<\/a><\/span>. Mr. Gittens said that while at the conference, he held discussions with\u00a0cruise executives from four major lines, asking them to consider St. Croix as an alternate destination port in the event of any diversions.<\/p>\n

Port Authority Acting Director David Mapp said the call was a welcomed advent for St. Croix; an island that has struggled to attract cruise ships to its port.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
