The Women\u2019s March on Washington has inspired over 300 \u201csister marches\u201d to take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, January 21 — the day after the Inauguration all around the U.S. — and the U.S. Virgin Islands, on all three islands, will be participating as well, press releases issued this week have made known.<\/p>\n
The Women\u2019s March on St. Croix will begin at Time Square and proceed down King Street. People will gather at the Fort Christiansted Bandstand from 10:30 a.m. to noon, for a program to include guest speakers, music, poetry readings and more.<\/p>\n
On St. Thomas, the march begins at 10:30 a.m. and runs through noon,\u00a0marching from Yacht Haven Grande to Frenchtown Post Office. In St. John, the march on Cruz Bay starts at noon from the Freedom Statue and ends at 1:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
All 50 states, Puerto Rico, and now the U.S. Virgin Islands, are confirmed to have at least one grassroots-led march on Saturday, as well as cities on six continents, from Tokyo to Sydney, Nairobi to Paris to Bogot\u00e1.<\/p>\n
During the Women’s March in the territory, people will join sisters and brothers in the U.S. and worldwide. Groups are uniting in towns, cities and schools to march in solidarity with communities affected by hate, intolerance and acts of violence. The aligned marches will seek to reaffirm the core values of freedom and democracy for all, at a time when many fear their voices will be lost, especially in relation to the rights of women, immigrants, workers, reproduction and freedom of choice, the LGBTQIA community, the environment, rights for all races and religious freedom, according to the release.<\/p>\n
The release states that the purpose of the women\u2019s marches is to send a clear message to the nation\u2019s leaders in the new government on their first day in office and to the world, that the United States of America upholds values of human decency, equal rights and freedom from discrimination – recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.<\/p>\n
