ST. CROIX — A 60-year-old woman, driving while drunk, was arrested on Tuesday after crashing into a truck at the intersection of the Alfredo Andrews Elementary School, The Consortium learned through a resident passing near the accident scene.<\/p>\n
V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte said the accident occurred at about 4:40 p.m. He said the drunk driver, 60-year-old Eldica Nanton, was described by police as being “highly intoxicated.”<\/p>\n
The accident left a 13-year-old minor, who was in the truck that the DUI driver collided into, with a broken arm, according to Mr. Dratte. Pictures obtained by The Consortium reveal that the DUI suspect was driving a Toyota Highlander. The images also show what appears to be blood on the scene of the accident.<\/p>\n
The minor was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for medical attention. On the scene were personnel from EMT, the V.I.P.D.’s traffic department, as well as V.I. Fire Service personnel.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, on Sunday night a 69-year-old man was arrested for drunk driving after being involved in an auto accident that reportedly caused the death of 68-year-old Robert Jones.<\/p>\n
The accident occurred on the North Shore in the vicinity of Gentle Wind, police said. The V.I.P.D.’s traffic division was dispatched to the scene at about 7:50 p.m. after being notified by the 911 emergency call center.<\/p>\n
According to Mr. Dratte, the drunk driver, identified as\u00a0Christopher Love,\u00a0was traveling from north to south when he lost control of his vehicle, which then overturned and went over an embankment. Mr. Jones was the passenger of the vehicle, according to police. He was ejected out of the crashed vehicle and died on the scene.<\/p>\n
