ST. CROIX — The Juan F. Luis Hospital on Monday announced the implementation of the first phase of “Code Red White and Blue”, a new practice at the hospital to recognize U.S. veterans who are patients or employees of the hospital.<\/p>\n
According to the release, as part of the process, J.F.L. patients will be asked at registration whether or not they are veterans, and if it is okay to recognize them during their stay. Their file would be notated in several areas, and a flag sticker placed on the patient\u2019s file. J.F.L. staff will then be encouraged to thank the patient veteran for their service whenever they are with that patient.<\/p>\n
The program will also recognize J.F.L. employees who currently serve or have served in the military. The human resources division will identify staff members who are veterans, and those employees will be recognized with a special badge and a free lunch on Veterans Day, according to the release.<\/p>\n
The veteran honor program was first discussed during a meeting of J.F.L.\u2019s Patient Experience Improvement team, and offered by the hospital’s chief financial officer, Tim Lessing, who worked with a similar program at a previous hospital.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur service men and women have fought and given their lives for us to enjoy the freedoms we have today, and they still continue to do that daily,\u201d Mr. Lessing said. \u201cThis is just a small token that we can give to show just how much we appreciate their service.\u201d<\/p>\n
The second phase of the veteran honor program will provide a special tribute to honor veterans who recently died at the hospital. It is expected to be rolled out by June of this year, according to the release.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
