For 40 years, the Caribbean Dance Company, with studios in St. Croix and St. Thomas, has been a leader in dance in the U.S. Virgin Islands, offering a variety of services to include\u00a0main stage performances, classes, lecture demonstrations and research of both Caribbean folk and contemporary dance forms.<\/p>\n

C.D.C. pulled out all the stops for its 40th annual affair at the Island Center for the Performing Arts over the weekend (videos below are from last night’s presentation), showing off a myriad of performances from dancers of varying age groups, and dazzling onlookers with a show fit for any revered dance event.<\/p>\n

According to a blurb on the company’s website<\/a><\/span>, the Caribbean Dance Company\u2019s program “encompasses a majority of the dance forms within our region as well as other contemporary styles; most other companies gear their teaching primarily towards European-based dance forms (ballet and modern) or focus on one local form (quadrille).”<\/p>\n

It says, “Elsewhere in the Caribbean, companies tend to concentrate on folk forms within their particular island region. Thus C.D.C. is unique in its comprehensive commitment to the cultural forms of the entire West Indian area. This focus is particularly important as many traditional expressions are in danger of being lost to future generations.”<\/p>\n
