Those looking to head to the beach this weekend in the USVI will find many choices to choose from, as the Department of Planning and Natural Resources on Friday said that all beaches it tested between June 26-30 — 35 beaches in total — had proven safe for swimming and fishing.<\/p>\n
The waters were deemed safe because they did not exceed the enterococci bacteria threshold considered to be safe. They include the following:<\/p>\n
St. Croix:\u00a0Cramer Park, Pelican Cove (Comorant), Rainbow, Chenay Bay, Cane Bay, Stoney Ground, Frederiksted Public Beach, Dorsch, Princess, Condo Row, Shoy\u2019s, Halfpenny, New Fort (Ft. Louise Augusta), Columbus Landing, Spratt Hall, Buccaneer, Protestant Cay and Grapetree Bay.<\/p>\n
St. Thomas:\u00a0Bolongo Bay, Lindquist, Magen\u2019s Bay, Frenchman\u2019s Bay, Secret Harbor, Water Bay, Bluebeards, Vessup Bay, Limetree, Sapphire, Lindbergh Bay, Brewer\u2019s Bay, Coki and Point Hull Bay.<\/p>\n
St. John:\u00a0Great Cruz Bay, Cruz Bay, Oppenhiemer and Frank Bay.<\/p>\n
The department, led by Commissioner Dawn L. Henry, says it will continue to monitor these popular swimming areas. DPNR also recommends that residents use their discretion when swimming or fishing at the designated beaches. If the waters appear muddy or murky or have foul odors, do not swim or fish.<\/p>\n
