CROIX &#8212; The cause of death of Lyana Serieux and her two young sons were determined to be homicide by the Virgin Islands Medical Examiner on Tuesday, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte confirmed to The Consortium Thursday. That means Ms. Serieux, 24, along with her boys Jordan Serieux and Jeremiah Serieux, ages 10 and 5 respectively, were killed by someone.<\/p>\n<p>Police, however, refused to release details on how the family was killed, with Mr. Dratte stating that the force is focused on its investigation and is attempting to make use of all the information it has collected.<\/p>\n<p>What is now one the most vicious \u00a0crimes committed in modern Virgin Islands history, started on Friday, July 29, the last day Ms. Serieux along with her two sons were seen. Ms. Serieux\u2019s family members had conducted their own search, but turned to police on Sunday, July 30 after futile attempts. By the night of Monday, July 31 at about 7:30 p.m., police discovered a\u00a02011 Silver Toyota Yaris with license plate number CFR 304 \u2014 confirmed to be that of Ms. Serieux \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/viconsortium.com\/virgin-islands-2\/police-release-photos-of-burned-vehicle-belonging-to-lyana-serieux\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">burnt in Upper Love.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The following day (Tuesday, August 1) at about 11:35 a.m., moments after a V.I.P.D. press briefing seeking the community\u2019s assistance, the bodies of Ms. Serieux\u2019s two minor sons were discovered on the south shore near Ha\u2019Penny Beach. The tragic nature of the discovery rocked the territory, with many expressing disbelief that such cruelty had occurred here.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fviconsortium%2Fvideos%2F1372929982821236%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The search continued for Ms. Serieux on Wednesday, August 2. During the evening of the same Wednesday, some residents gathered at Fort Christianvaern\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/viconsortium.com\/featured\/the-usvi-is-uniting-in-face-of-tragedy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">for prayer<\/a>, and were joined by tens of thousands more from around the world.\u00a0\u201cI stand with you in prayer from Jerusalem,\u201d said Hannah Jasmine McCoy. \u201cPrayers from the Santos family from East Tennessee,\u201d said\u00a0Mario N. Wendy Santos. \u201cPraying and standing in agreement in Indianapolis,\u201d said Claire James.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, August 3, Ms. Serieux&#8217;s body <a href=\"https:\/\/viconsortium.com\/featured\/body-removed-from-cistern-confirmed-to-be-lyana-serieux\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">was discovered in a cistern<\/span><\/a> of an abandoned building behind the Mutual Homes Housing Community.<\/p>\n<p>V.I.P.D. Commissioner Delroy Richards vowed to bring those responsible to justice.\u00a0\u201cWe are going to pursue the individual or individuals responsible, and we want them to know that. We are going to leave no stone unturned, and we\u2019re going to be aggressively involved in trying to bring this to a closure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner said that the force has been following every lead it gets \u2014 down to comments online \u2014 to try and piece together what really happened. \u201cSo far we have been unable to confirm a lot of them,\u201d he said. He did, however, confirm that items of \u201cevidentiary value\u201d were discovered in the abandoned building.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fviconsortium%2Fvideos%2F1368122426635325%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The killing of Ms. Serieux and her two minor sons brought the territory\u2019s homicide count to 37 for 2017. By August 29 last year,<a href=\"https:\/\/viconsortium.com\/featured\/vipd-updates-2016-homicide-count-to-47-on-current-track-it-could-be-60-by-end-of-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0the territory had already seen 47 homicides<\/a>\u00a0in total, 40 of which were gun-related and another 7 were vehicular.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ST.
