If all goes well, current Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority board chair Elizabeth Armstrong, above, and board member Hubert Turnbull, will continue to serve in their respective capacities after being renominated by Governor Kenneth Mapp, according to a Government House release issued Thursday.<\/p>\n

Mr. Mapp also nominated Gustav James to serve on the WAPA board. Mr. James was already a member of the board as a public servant when he was the commissioner of Public Works. If his renomination is approved, Mr. James will be the newest private citizen to serve on the board.<\/p>\n

Ms. Armstrong is the owner and general manager of The Buccaneer Hotel, and is a past president of the St. Croix Hotel and Tourism Association. Mr. Turnbull is the manager\/director of TMT Sand Company.<\/p>\n

Mr. Mapp has requested that the nominees be considered favorably by the members of the Virgin Islands Legislature.<\/p>\n

According to information found on its website<\/span><\/a>, WAPA\u00a0is governed by a nine member board of public and private sector members. The governor of the Virgin Islands selects the three public sector members of the board from his cabinet. Presently they are Marvin Pickering, director of Bureau of Internal Revenue, and Devin Carrington, commissioner of the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs.<\/p>\n

The six private sector board members are nominated by the governor and confirmed by the V.I. Legislature for three year terms. Private sector members\u00a0are from each district.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0St. Thomas\/St. John\/Water Island district private sector members\u00a0are:\u00a0Juanita R. Young, secretary and chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, Cheryl Boynes-Jackson and Mr. Turnbull.<\/p>\n
