{"id":57473,"date":"2017-10-12T23:05:49","date_gmt":"2017-10-12T23:05:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/viconsortium.com\/?p=57473"},"modified":"2017-10-12T23:05:49","modified_gmt":"2017-10-12T23:05:49","slug":"social-security-offices-in-usvi-and-pr-to-reopen-as-soon-as-possible-social-security-payments-continue-to-be-made","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wp.viconsortium.com\/?p=57473","title":{"rendered":"Social Security Offices In USVI And PR To Reopen &#8216;As Soon As Possible&#8217;; Social Security Payments Continue To Be Made"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">Social Security offices in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands currently remain closed, however, these offices will be reopened as soon as possible, according to a release the Social Security Administration&#8217;s New York Regional Public Affairs Office issued today.\u00a0 The agency continues to pay Social Security benefits, 99 percent by direct deposit in Puerto Rico and 98 percent in the USVI, according to the release.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><span class=\"\">The remaining beneficiaries receive paper checks by postal delivery. Incoming mail service is available to Puerto Rico and the USVI and people are receiving mail through pickup at post offices or limited delivery. The U.S. Postal Service will hold Social Security checks for 45 days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Residents of Puerto Rico and the USVI who wish to contact Social Security may call the toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213\u200e (people who are deaf or hard of hearing may call Social Security\u2019s TTY number, 1-800-325-0778),<b class=\"\">\u00a0<\/b>to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"\"><span class=\"\">apply for Social Security benefits,<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"\"><span class=\"\">enroll in Medicare,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"\"><span class=\"\">update their Social Security benefit information, including address and direct deposit,\u00a0and<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"\"><span class=\"\">report non-receipt of their monthly Social Security benefit.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\">People who have Internet service, including cellular, may\u00a0<span class=\"\" lang=\"EN\">create their<span class=\"\">\u00a0<b class=\"\"><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/secure.ssa.gov\/RIL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">my\u00a0Social Security<\/a><\/b><\/span> account,\u00a0<\/span>a personalized online service,\u00a0<span class=\"\" lang=\"EN\">and start or change direct deposit online\u00a0<\/span>at:\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.socialsecurity.gov\/myaccount\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.socialsecurity.gov\/myaccount<\/a><span class=\"\" lang=\"EN\">.<b class=\"\">\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Through their\u00a0<b class=\"\"><span class=\"\" lang=\"EN\"><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/secure.ssa.gov\/RIL\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"\">my\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"\">Social Security<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span class=\"\" lang=\"EN\">account, people\u00a0<\/span>also can check other personal information and conduct business with Social Security.\u00a0 If they already receive Social Security benefits and they need proof of their benefits, they can download their current Benefit Verification Letter from their\u00a0<span class=\"\" lang=\"EN\">account.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">People not yet receiving benefits can use their online account to get a personalized\u00a0<i class=\"\">Social Security Statement,<\/i>\u00a0which provides earnings information as well as estimates of future benefits.
