Levron Sarauw, Sr., executive director of the Virgin Islands Taxicab Commission announced on Thursday that pursuant to Virgin Islands law, the Taxi Commission will hold its annual veterans medallion auction on December 13, 14 and 15. The auction will be open only to Virgin Islands veterans, Mr. Sarauw stressed.<\/p>\n
Applications can be picked up at the Taxicab Commission\u2019s offices during regular working hours (Mon-Fri., 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m). Bid forms must be deposited in the bid box no later than 9:00 a.m. the day of the auction for St. Thomas and St. John, and two days before for the St. Croix auction, according to the release.<\/p>\n
Applications must be taken to the Office of Veterans Affairs for verification of eligibility as a U.S. Virgin Islands veteran on the island for which the bid is scheduled. Bid applicants must be present at time of auction. Bid envelopes will be publicly opened on the date and times indicated.<\/p>\n
Persons who purchase a medallion at any of the auctions are prohibited from transferring said medallion by sale or otherwise, within three years of purchase.\u00a0Only approved buyers may submit bids.<\/p>\n
Two medallions for each island will be auctioned to approved U.S. Virgin Islands veterans on the following dates and times:<\/p>\n
\u2022 St. Thomas: Wednesday December 13, 11:00 a.m.- Taxicab Commission Office in Subbase
\n\u2022 St.John: Thursday December 14, 11:00 a.m. at the St. John administrator’s office.
\n\u2022 St. Croix: Friday December 15, 11:00 a.m. at the St. Croix Taxicab Office at\u00a03274, Estate Richmond.<\/p>\n
The minimum acceptable bid is set at $20,000 for St. Thomas; $20,000 for St. John; and $8,000.00 for St. Croix.<\/p>\n
A 10 percent down payment of bid amount (non-refundable deposit if the sale is not consummated) is required at the time of the bid, or no later than 3:00 p.m. on the same day. The down payment must be paid in money order or certified check payable to the Government of the Virgin Islands. No payment will be accepted in cash. The remaining balance of 90 percent must be paid in a like manner within 10 days after the date of the auction sale, at which time a Certificate of Entitlement and the medallion will be issued.<\/p>\n
If the sale is not consummated within the allotted 10 days, the second highest bidder will automatically be awarded the bid.<\/p>\n
