ST. CROIX — The University of the Virgin Islands\u2019 Office of Student Activities late Friday announced its “Mr. Incredible Show”, to be held on December 1 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria on UVI\u2019s Albert A. Sheen Campus. The Mr. Incredible contest was created with the vision of showcasing the talent and empowering young men at the university, UVI said.<\/p>\n
“We are excited to highlight the talent of our male students, who are doing positive things in our community,\u201d said Kevin Dixon, coordinator of Student Activities for Student Affairs on the Sheen Campus. \u201cThe overarching goal of hosting the Mr. Incredible contest is to empower young men and the event serves as an encouragement to continue to pursue their degree.”<\/p>\n
The third Mr. Incredible contest, a university based initiative, will allow male contenders to develop leadership skills, confidence, and networking skills, UVI said. The show will include modeling segments where grooming and poise are measured. The show will also feature various segments such as creative introduction, business wear, talent, 60\u2019s swag wear, a question and answer, and best pickup line.<\/p>\n
“The group of five contenders is a good representation of our campus. They represents some of the best and most talented students at UVI,\u201d Mr. Dixon said. \u201cThey range from freshman to senior, and major in programs such as accounting, biology, criminal justice and mass communication.”<\/p>\n
Contender number one is Andre Joseph, he is a junior accounting major. Contender number two is Matthew Perry, a freshman mass communication major. Contender number three is Morandy Charles a sophomore criminal justice major. Contender number four is Josinio Andrew, a sophomore criminal justice major. Lastly, contender number five is Amali Krigger, a senior computer science major.<\/p>\n
The winner will be awarded a $500 cash prize, and 1st runner up will receive $200 cash prize. Awards will also be presented for the Mr. Intellect, Best Business Wear, Best Performing Talent, Mr. Popularity, People\u2019s Choice Award, etc. Tickets are available in the University Bookstore, $3 for current UVI students with valid identification and $5 for the general public.<\/p>\n
