ST. CROIX — Another animal cruelty incident involving a dog has been reported on St. Croix one week following a previous animal cruelty crime that occurred in Estate\u00a0Tipperary, which also involved a dog<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte, on Friday at around 1:00 p.m., the Virgin Islands Police Department’s animal cruelty investigator was dispatched to the Frederiksted Animal Clinic regarding a pit bull dog that was badly injured but alive.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival to the animal clinic, the investigator was told that the pit bull dog was brought in by its owner after it was discovered with what appeared to be lacerations from a machete.<\/p>\n

Mr. Dratte said based on the preliminary investigation, the dog\u2019s owner, who resides in the Estate Strawberry Hill area, stated that on the previous day, he returned from work at around 6:30 p.m. and noticed that one of his dogs was missing and that the collar was still attached to the chain where it was tied.<\/p>\n

The owner searched for his dog around the neighborhood but did not find it.<\/p>\n

The owner later returned to the dog house and discovered that the dog had returned with severe lacerations about its body. It was rushed to the Frederiksted Animal Clinic in an attempt to save its life.<\/p>\n

At the clinic, a veterinary technician confirmed that the injuries the dog sustained were not from a dog fight, but from a large blade or machete.<\/p>\n

The dog had at least 12 lacerations to the neck, head and back area.<\/p>\n

It is believed that the dog, a blue nose pit bull, was badly beaten on the morning of Friday, January 12, in the Estate Strawberry Hill and Sunny Acres area.<\/p>\n
