ST. CROIX — Citizens looking to register to vote in November’s consequential general election can do so at the St. Croix and St. John offices, after an announcement by the Election System of the Virgin Islands that the offices would once again resume operations. In December, Elections Supervisor Caroline Fawkes said the offices would not be open for registration “until further notice<\/span><\/a>.”<\/p>\n

While the St. John office will operate in its location on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the St. Croix office was moved to the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs, located in the Golden Rock Shopping Center near Domino’s Pizza. The St. Croix office will also open from\u00a0 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but Mrs. Fawkes did not clarify the days of operation. Both offices will be conducting manual registration.<\/p>\n

To be eligible for registration, a resident must prove U.S. citizenship with one of the following documents: Birth certificate, a U.S. passport, a military discharge form (DD214), or a naturalization certificate, according to Mrs. Fawkes. Copied documents will not be accepted.<\/p>\n

This year’s election, especially the gubernatorial contest, is shaping up to be quite the season, with a plethora of candidates throwing their hats in the race — among them Albert Bryan, Jr., Positive Nelson, Randolph Bennett, Moleto Smith, Soraya Diase-Coffelt, Angel Dawson, and Warren Mosler.<\/p>\n
