The Virgin Islands Bureau of Internal Revenue on Tuesday announced that as a continued result of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, all income tax due dates have been extended.<\/p>\n
Pursuant to the Mirror Code and the Presidential Disaster Declarations issued for the U.S. Virgin Islands, the 2016 income tax returns that were extended to October 15, 2017 are now due on June 29, 2018.<\/p>\n
Last week, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) also extended the 2017 individual income tax, estimated tax payments, corporate income taxes, and payroll tax deadlines to June 29, 2018.<\/p>\n
Taxpayers who need more time to file their individual income taxes can do so by filing form 4868, which has also been extended to June 29, 2018, B.I.R. said. Corporate taxpayers can file form 7004 to request an extension. Taxpayers who file the extension form will have until October 15, 2018 to file their 2017 income tax returns. Taxpayers are urged to pay all outstanding taxes on or before June 29, 2018.<\/p>\n
B.I.R. said there are no extended due dates for gross receipt, road and hotel occupancy taxes — all of which are paid locally.<\/p>\n
Taxpayers in need of extensions or waivers on local taxes can make their request in writing. All requests should be directed to the director\u2019s office for approval. A detailed explanation must be included in the request for a waiver.<\/p>\n
