ST. THOMAS — Gustavo Adolfo Jimenez Polanco, 30, a Dominican Republic national, pleaded guilty today in district court to illegal reentry into the United States, United States Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert announced. Polanco remains in custody pending his sentencing scheduled for August 23, 2018.<\/p>\n

According to the plea agreement, Polanco appeared at the Cyril E. King Airport on February 10, 2018 and was questioned regarding a Florida Driver\u2019s License that he presented to the primary inspector at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection checkpoint. The primary inspector referred him to secondary inspection where it was determined that Polanco was a Dominican Republic national who had been deported from the United States on July 1, 2014.<\/p>\n

Under federal law, Polanco faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.<\/p>\n

This case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security. It is being prosecuted
\nby Assistant United States Attorney Everard E. Potter.<\/p>\n
