ST. THOMAS — A man who was shot in his stomach on Saturday afternoon succumbed to his injuries soon after, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has confirmed to The Consortium.<\/p>\n

Mr. Dratte said the 911 emergency call center was notified of a shooting near a Tutu High Rise apartment at about 4:31 p.m., with the caller stating that the victim was being transported to the hospital on a private vehicle.<\/p>\n

A preliminary investigation by the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau (C.I.B.) revealed that the victim was shot in his lower abdomen. He was pronounced dead at 4:49 p.m. the same day, according to police.<\/p>\n

The victim was identified by his mother as 29-year-old Akeem Lettesome.<\/p>\n

The case is under investigation by C.I.B., according to the V.I.P.D. Police are asking anyone with information about this homicide to call 340-774-2211 ext. 5569, or 340-714-9830.
