ST. CROIX — Two men were arrested on St. Croix on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in a 2013 shooting that left a then-30-year-old man dead, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.<\/p>\n

Shoy Nixon, 30<\/span><\/a>, and Lester Robert, 29<\/span><\/a>, were arrested between 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. Wednesday based on a warrant issued by a VI Superior Court magistrate for the 2013 murder of Astathon Isles, who was 30 when he was killed in Cane Bay, according to Mr. Dratte. Both men were charged with first-degree murder.<\/p>\n

Unable to make bail of $500,000 each, Mr. Nixon and Mr. Robert were remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending their advisement hearing.<\/p>\n

Police Commissioner Delroy Richards has long committed to solving cold cases in the territory, and in 2015 ramped up the\u00a0process<\/span><\/a> of filling positions on the V.I.P.D.’s Cold Case Unit (C.C.U.) in an effort to solve cases that residents might think the force had ignored.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll major cases are being pursued to the extent that we have returned experience detectives to the cold case squad,\u201d the commissioner said.<\/p>\n

Following the arrests of the suspects on Wednesday, Mr. Richards praised the detectives on the V.I.P.D.’s C.C.U. for their persistence, and vowed to continue providing the resources to the various units within the V.I.P.D. to effectively combat crime.<\/p>\n

The V.I.P.D. also thanked the community for its support, stating that help from the community plays a critical role in bringing cases to closure, which the V.I.P.D. said also helps bring closure to hurting families.<\/p>\n
