On August 4, thousands of Virgin Islanders will head to the polls to cast their votes for the Democratic lot of candidates. This will determine who in the party will qualify for the general election race, where they will also face independent candidates vying for office in both the senatorial and gubernatorial fields.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, the Election System released sample ballots in an attempt to familiarize voters. The St. Thomas-St. John District has 30 candidates in total vying for a seat in the upcoming 33rd Legislature, with 10 candidates running as Independents, 17 as Democrats, 2 Independent Citizens Movement (I.C.M.) and 1 Republican.<\/p>\n
In the St. Croix District, there are 29 candidates running for Senate, including 16 Democrats, 11 with no party affiliation and 2 Republicans.<\/p>\n
There are currently 9 gubernatorial candidates, including the Democratic teams \u2014 Petrus-Sanes, Bryan-Roach and Dawson-James \u2014 two of which will be eliminated on August 4. There are 4 Independent teams seeking the territory\u2019s highest office, including Millin Young-Bengoa, Smith-Frederick, Donastorg-Hansen and the Coffelt-Nicholson teams. Governor Kenneth Mapp and Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter are listed as having no party affiliation, along with the Mosler-Fonseca ticket, also listed as having no party affiliation.<\/p>\n
