Elections Supervisor Caroline Fawkes late Wednesday revealed that 3,521 Virgin Islands residents voted early this year, with St. Thomas leading all three islands.<\/p>\n
As early voting came to a close on Wednesday, 2,038 residents had cast their ballots in St. Thomas, followed by St. Croix with 1,404 and St. John with 79 votes.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Fawkes said the early voting results will be tabulated upon the closing of polls on election day at 7:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
Election day this is Saturday, August 4. Polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m., Mrs. Fawkes said.<\/p>\n
There are 30 candidates in the St. Thomas-St. John District vying for a seat in the upcoming 33rd Legislature, with 10 candidates running as Independents, 17 as Democrats, 2 Independent Citizens Movement (I.C.M.) and 1 Republican.<\/p>\n
In the St. Croix District, there are 28 candidates running for Senate, including 16 Democrats, 11 with no party affiliation and 2 Republicans.<\/p>\n
Following the Democratic Primary on August 4, the race will become less cluttered with only 7 candidates being eligible to place in each district. These Democrats will then face the Independents and Independent Citizens Movement candidates in the general election set for November 6.<\/p>\n
There are currently 9 gubernatorial candidates, including the Democratic teams \u2014 Petrus-Sanes, Bryan-Roach and Dawson-James \u2014 two of which will be eliminated on August 4. There are 4 Independent teams seeking the territory\u2019s highest office, including Millin Young-Bengoa, Smith-Frederick, Donastorg-Hansen and the Coffelt-Nicholson teams. Governor Kenneth Mapp and Lieutenant Governor Osbert Potter are listed as having no party affiliation, along with the Mosler-Fonseca ticket, also listed as having no party affiliation.<\/p>\n
