The Department of Planning and Natural Resources has advised St. Croix residents to stay way from the island’s beaches this weekend because of storm water runoff caused by Tropical Storm Isaac. Though the storm passed well south of St. Croix, the island saw rain all of Friday.<\/p>\n
The advisory comes even after D.P.N.R. tested a number of beaches on St. Croix and found them to be safe. Beaches in St. Thomas and St. John were also tested.<\/p>\n
The waters tested as safe on St. Croix between September 10-14 according to D.P.N.R., were Cramer\u2019s Park, Shoy\u2019s, New Fort (Ft. Louise Augusta), Buccaneer, Chenay Bay, Halfpenny, Dorsch, Frederiksted Public Beach, Cane Bay, Pelican Cove (Cormorant), Protestant Cay and Rainbow.<\/p>\n
On St. Thomas, they were:\u00a0Magen\u2019s Bay, Brewer\u2019s Bay, Hull Bay, Water Bay, Vessup Bay, Coki Point, Lindquist, Bolongo Bay, Sapphire, Water Bay, Bluebeards and Secret Harbor.<\/p>\n
St. John’s beaches tested as safe were Frank Bay, Great Cruz Bay, Cruz Bay and Johnson Bay.<\/p>\n
The beaches that did not meet the threshold considered safe were: Lindberg Bay in St. Thomas and\u00a0Oppenheimer in St. John.
