ST. THOMAS — Two incidents in St. Thomas on Monday night left three victims — all female — injured with multiple gunshot wounds, V.I.P.D. Commissioner Delroy Richards confirmed to The Consortium early Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The first incident, which occurred at about 8:36 p.m., left a 37-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter hospitalized, after approximately 30 shots were fired at a car that the mother was driving, Mr. Richards said. He said the incident occurred in the Santa Maria area in St. Thomas and that no motive had been established as of late Monday.<\/p>\n
According to the commissioner, both victims were transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center via ambulance and underwent surgery Monday night. He said both victims were in stable condition.<\/p>\n
“We don’t know what the motive is, we don’t know if they were in fact the intended target,” the commissioner said. He did, however, said the vehicle that was riddled with gunshots was owned by an individual that has had run-ins with police.<\/p>\n
“Based on the preliminary investigation, we believe that the intended target might have been someone else — a male individual — who normally operates that vehicle, and who obviously has had brushes with the law,” Mr. Richards said.<\/p>\n
Shooting during attempted robbery<\/strong><\/p>\n While officers were at the hospital investigating the first shooting, calls came in shortly after the 10:00 p.m. hour, according to Mr. Richards, in regards to a separate, unrelated shooting incident that occurred in the Fort Mylner area in St. Thomas.<\/p>\n The commissioner said a man called police stating that he was near the KFC Restaurant located in Fort Mylner, when someone attempted to rob him. The man said he was with his girlfriend at the time, when the suspect discharged multiple gunshots, a number of which hit the girlfriend about her body, including an shot that grazed her nose.<\/p>\n “She too was in stable condition,” Mr. Richards said, referring to the female victim in the attempted robbery incident.<\/p>\n The commissioner said both incidents were being investigated by V.I.P.D. detectives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" ST.
