{"id":68724,"date":"2018-11-07T11:00:14","date_gmt":"2018-11-07T11:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/viconsortium.com\/?p=68724"},"modified":"2018-11-07T11:01:53","modified_gmt":"2018-11-07T11:01:53","slug":"democrats-win-super-majority-in-senate-with-women-leading-the-charge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wp.viconsortium.com\/?p=68724","title":{"rendered":"Democrats Win Super Majority In Senate, With Women Leading The Charge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Democrats in the St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix Districts have won a super majority of the Virgin Islands Legislature, taking all seven seats on St. Croix while carrying five on St. Thomas, according to Tuesday&#8217;s General Election results.<\/p>\n<p>On St. Croix, Alicia Barnes was the top vote getter, keeping her primary election momentum. In second place was Allison DeGazon, followed by Kurt Vialet, Javan James, Novelle Francis, Kenneth Gittens and Oakland Benta &#8212; all Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>At the St. Croix Bryan-Roach campaign headquarters on Tuesday night as the poll results were coming in, Democratic leaders lauded their success, which not only included the Senate wins, but also a strong showing by Mr. Bryan, who heads into a runoff on November 20 with Governor Kenneth Mapp leading with 37.81 percent of the votes, while the governor trails with 33.76. (Mr. Bryan collected 9,265 votes territory-wide, while the governor managed 8,271.)<\/p>\n<p>On St. Thomas, Donna Frett-Gregory, a Democrat, was the top vote getter in the Senate race. She was followed by Marvin Blyden, Athneil Thomas, Dwayne DeGraff, Stedman Hodge, Janelle Sarauw and Myron Jackson.
