ST. JOHN — The Julius E. Sprauve School (JESS) Music Department hosted its annual Christmas Program, titled, \u201cChristmas Around the World\u201d on December 14 at Franklin Powell Park on St. John, featuring student performances of traditional Christmas songs from nations across the globe, the Department of Education has announced.<\/p>\n
Students opened the program with the reading of \u201cChristmas All Around the World,\u201d an original piece written by Mariella Raynoso, Yuli Potter, Jade Rawlins, and Audena Pickering. Students made the first stop of their journey in Africa with the traditional \u201cSing Noel\u201d carol sung by kindergarten and first grade classes. Next, the fourth and fifth grade classes sang the American tune, \u201cOld St. Nick Rides with Jingles.\u201d<\/p>\n
The program continued with a dazzling, pantomime-inspired student dance performance by Nicol Jimenez Pepen, Kisha Gil Perez, and Claudia Tiburcio Pete to \u201cHow Many Kings.\u201d Second and third grade students brought the tour home to the Virgin Islands with the classic tune, \u201cThe Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy.\u201d<\/p>\n
The highlight of the show was the creative, original rap song written and performed by Jerry Smith, Kaiden Matthews, Imanuel Thomas, and Wajahri Powell. The students\u2019 energetic performance of \u201cSanta\u2019s Gift Rap\u201d quickly became a crowd favorite as students beatboxed in step with their lyrical flows.<\/p>\n
Sprauve faculty took to the stage to sing the traditional Filipino tune, \u201cStar Ng Pasko\u201d by Azia Seguerra. The JESS concert band continued the world tour with the German, \u201cOde to Joy\u201d followed by the American classic, \u201cI\u2019ll be Home for Christmas.\u201d<\/p>\n
The musical tour ended with eighth grade dance group \u201cLitty Elves\u201d performing original choreography to \u201cAll I Want for Christmas\u201d by Mariah Carey. The final performance of the day was an original poem, titled, \u201cCounting to Christmas,\u201d performed by students Adeleke King, Demikah Martin, William Metayer, and Kylah Thomas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
