The Virgin Islands Water and Power Athority said in a release that the lack of adequate water storage levels at the Kingshill storage tank on St. Croix continues to hamper WAPA\u2019s ability to provide potable water service to the west end of St. Croix. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the release, the affected areas extend from mid-island to the west end, including the town of Frederiksted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The latest challenges began overnight Friday when an electrical failure at the Concordia pump station resulted in its falling off-line, and the water capacity being reduced to just over a foot, WAPA said. The pump station was restored on Saturday afternoon, however, the water storage level has not exceeded three feet in the last 24 hours. A minimum of six to seven feet of water is needed for basic water service to be provided to the west end of St. Croix. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
WAPA said water distribution crews are monitoring the tank level regularly. However, the resumption of water service to the affected areas hinges on gaining additional capacity at the storage tank.
