Government House announced today that Governor Albert Bryan Jr, will sign a proclamation granting administrative leave to non-essential government personnel on Monday, April 1, 2019, in observance of the 102nd anniversary of Transfer Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In accordance with the Virgin Islands Code, when a holiday such as Transfer Day falls on a Sunday, the Governor by Proclamation may, in his discretion, grant administrative leave on the following Monday, Government House said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Bryan said he wants the people of the Virgin Islands to reflect on the Transfer and the transformation of our community since 1917, according to the release. The governor also wants Virgin Islanders to begin to have a more meaningful conversation about our political relationship with the United States of America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs we observe the 102nd anniversary of the Transfer, the time has come for us to pay deeper consideration to the history of our relationship with the U.S. Government and what we want that relationship to be moving forward,” the governor said. “Our territory has undertaken a number of initiatives over the years that speak directly to our political status. If we are to renew, once again the process of self-determination, we have to begin a rigorous and comprehensive campaign to educate our community on the pathways to resolving the question of political status.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
