Polls opened at 7:00 a.m. today for the Reapportionment Initiative’s special election, whose intent is to upend the current way Virgin Islanders elect their leaders, for a more representative form of government through districts that govern certain parts of the islands. The idea is to hold leaders more accountable once elected. Polls close at 7:00 p.m. today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative, if approved, would restructure the legislature from two separate legislative districts into five, with the legislature continuing with 15 senators: 9 district senators and 6 at-large senators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative also needs half of the territory’s registered voters to participate in today’s vote, and a majority of those votes, to become law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Below are all the polling places:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
St. Thomas-St. John District <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Charles W. Turnbull Library Poll:<\/strong> This polling place will serve Ivanna Eudora Kean, Joseph Gomez, Bertha C. Boschulte, Charles Turnbull precincts. Lockhart Elementary School Poll<\/strong>: This polling place will serve the Charlotte Amalie High School Gym, Oswald Harris Court, Winston Raymo Center and Joseph Sibilly precincts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The University of the Virgin Islands\u2019 Sports & Fitness Center<\/strong> polling place will serve: Ulla Muller (Last Names A-l), Gladys Abraham Polling Precincts Ulla Muller (Last Names M-z), and Addelita Cancryn precincts. The Julius Sprauve School<\/strong> polling place in St. John will serve the Guy Benjamin and Julius Sprauve precincts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n St. Croix District<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Pearl B. Larsen Elementary School polling place will serve Florence Williams and the Pearl B. Larsen precincts. The Juanita Gardine Elementary Schoo<\/strong>l polling place will serve the Elena Christian, John F. Kennedy and Juanita Gardine precincts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Ricardo Richards Elementary School polling place will serve Lew Muckle and Ricardo Richards. The St. Croix Educational Complex<\/strong> polling place will serve itself along with Alfredo Andrews, Eulalie Rivera and Evelyn Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Claude O.
