ST. CROIX — A man was shot in the ankle in the wee hours of Friday morning while in the Watergut area, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police were dispatched to the area at about 4:50 a.m. Friday after being notified of the incident by the 911 emergency call center. Upon their arrival to the scene, officers met a male victim with a gunshot wound to the ankle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victim told police that he was walking in the area, heard someone calling his name and this person — who the victim said he was unable to identify — suddenly started discharging shots. The victim stated that he immediately starting running to evade the bullets, but later realized that he had been shot in the ankle, Mr. Dratte said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victim was transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital via ambulance. The case is being investigated by the V.I.P.D.’s Criminal Investigation Bureau (C.I.B.), Mr. Dratte said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
