ST. THOMAS — A St. Thomas man who was shot in the head in the wee hours of Sunday morning in the area of Banco Popular in Altona, between the roadways of Veteran\u2019s Drive and Harwood Highway, has succumbed to his injuries, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte announced Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victim was removed from life support, Mr. Dratte said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victim’s death brings the territory’s homicide count to 11 — five in St. Thomas and six on St. Croix, according to figures provided by Mr. Dratte. The victim’s identity was unknown as of late Monday, according to the police report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a previous release, Mr. Dratte said police were dispatched to the crime scene at about 1:39 a.m. Sunday after learning of the shooting. Upon their arrival, they met the victim lying unconscious next to a bicycle. The victim was then rushed to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for care, where physicians determined that the victim still had vital signs, but he was in critical condition, suggesting that the head wound had caused major damage.<\/p>\n\n\n
The case is being investigated by the V.I.P.D.\u2019s Criminal Investigation Bureau, Mr. Dratte said.<\/p>\n
