ST. THOMAS — A shooting in the wee hours of Tuesday morning in St. Thomas has left a Superior Court Marshal, who was the incident’s victim, along with the suspect, who was shot during an exchange of fire, injured, V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Dratte said the 911 emergency call center received notification at about 12:42 a.m. Tuesday that shots had been fired in the area of First Stop Gas Station, located across the street from Vitraco Park. Immediately after, another call came in making known that two individuals were transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment. The Marshal was performing security guard duties at the gas station when the incident occurred, according to Mr. Dratte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At about 12 noon Tuesday, police arrested the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Shamari Elmes (police did not provide a mugshot of the suspect), and charged him with first-degree assault, third-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr. Elmes was receiving treatment as of Tuesday night, and was scheduled for his advisement hearing on Wednesday, at which point he will be remanded to the Bureau of Corrections, Mr. Dratte said. His bail was set at $75,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
