The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s School Food Authority has announced the availability of job applications for the 2019\u00a0Summer\u00a0Feeding\u00a0Program for interested persons in the St. Thomas-St. John District. Applications can be picked up at the Office of School Food Authority in Subbase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Summer Feeding Program will operate from\u00a0June 17\u00a0through\u00a0August 9 (7 weeks and 3 days). Employment application deadline is Friday, May 31. Site\/camp application deadline is Friday, June 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The feed program is federally-funded and was established to ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. When school is out, the program provides free meals to kids and teens in low-income areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
School age children 2-18 years can participate in the program. A person between ages 19-21 who has mental or physical disability (as determined by a state or local educational agency), and who participates during the school year in a public or private nonprofit school\u00a0program\u00a0(established for the mentally or physically disabled), is also eligible to participate in the program, D.O.E. said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In accordance with Federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its Agencies, offices, and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA,” reads a statement provided in the press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g. Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.), should contact the Agency (State or local) where they applied for benefits. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339. Additionally,program information may be made available in languages other than English.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
