Most of the beaches tested for water quality this week were deemed safe for swimming and fishing by the Department of Planning and Natural Resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to D.P.N.R., of the 33 beaches it sampled this week, only Coki Point and Secret Harbor in St. Thomas were labeled unsafe this weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To prove safety, D.P.N.R. samples enterococci bacteria and turbidity, which is a measure of water clarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
D.P.N.R. did not test Princess (Condo Row) & Grapetree Bay on St. Croix Therefore, the water quality of these beaches is unknown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Below, the safe beaches:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
St. Thomas | Magen\u2019s Bay, Brewer\u2019s Bay, Sapphire, Lindquist, Water Bay, Bolongo Bay, Lindbergh Bay, Vessup Bay, Bluebeard\u2019s, Hull Bay and Frenchman\u2019s Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
St. Croix | Shoy\u2019s, New Fort (Ft. Louise Augusta), Dorsch, Frederiksted Public Beach, Stony Ground, Spratt Hall, Pelican Cove (Cormorant), Rainbow, Columbus Landing, Buccaneer, Protestant Cay, Chenay Bay, Cramer\u2019s Park, Halfpenny and Cane Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
St. John | Great Cruz Bay, Cruz Bay, Frank Bay, Oppenheimer and Johnson Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
D.P.N.R. said all persons should be aware that storm water runoff may also contain contaminants or pollutants harmful to human health and therefore all persons should avoid areas of storm water runoff (i.e. guts, puddles, and drainage basins) or if any area appears discolored or has foul odors. DPNR will continue to monitor the impacted areas and waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
