ST. CROIX — Police on Thursday morning found the body of man lying motionless on the ground outside of an Estate Profit housing community apartment at about 6:22 a.m., V.I.P.D. Public Information Officer Glen Dratte has announced. The victim was shot multiple times in various parts of the body with a high-powered assault rifle based on the shell casings collected on the scene, Mr. Dratte said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Mr. Dratte, the 911 emergency call center first received notification of a shooting at the housing community, sometimes called the Harvey Project, at approximately 12:01 a.m. Thursday, and immediately dispatched officers to the location. However, upon their arrival, the officers saw no evidence of the reported shooting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But at roughly 6:22 a.m. today, the 911 emergency call center received another call in regards to a man who had been shot and was lying on the ground near the entrance of an apartment in the same housing community. Upon arrival to the scene, police discovered the body, whose identity was revealed by next of kin as Victor Gonzales, 39.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Dratte said the incident is being actively investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau and the Major Crime Unit.<\/p>\n\n\n
