October was bullying prevention month and counselors Kisha Roberts, Merle Durand and Leana Timothy implemented an anti-bullying campaign at the Arthur A. Richards K-8 School.
The school held anti-bullying presentations for all grade levels. Presentations were given by Darlene Springer of DVSAC and Officer Charles E. Nibbs of the Virgin Islands Police Department.
The school also held an anti-bullying poster contest which was judged by a former superintendent of schools – Cecelia Knowles, retired Judge Joyce O’ Reilly, School Psychologist Carolyn Skepple-Francis and Coordinator for the after-school program of the New Testament Church of God, Jasmine Johnson.
The winners of the poster contest received cash prizes and other goodies. In addition, the entire school was encouraged to wear orange for Unity Day. The color orange represented anti-bullying, and everyone was encouraged to stomp out bullying, the school said.
On Unity Day, October 23, the counselors gave out oranges and tangerines to the entire staff.
The school thanked Cost U Less and Stop and Shop Supermarkets for their generous donations towards our Unity Day activities.
