Dumaray Isles, Jr. was arrested on Thursday morning by St. Croix police and charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, among other charges, in connection with a traffic stop on Feb. 25.
Police say two firearms were found in the vehicle Isles was operating, which officers stopped on Melvin Evans Highway near HOVENSA because of non-working brake lights. After entering the firearms into the national data base and conducting additional investigations, officers discovered one firearm was stolen from a licensed gun owner in Florida and the second was stolen from a licensed gun owner on St. Croix. The gun thefts were reported to the owners’ local police stations.
In addition to the Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm charge, Isles was charged with Possession and Sale of Ammunition, Grand Larceny, Buying, Receiving or Possessing Stolen Property, and Failure to Report Firearms Obtained Outside or Brought into the Virgin Islands.
Bail has been set at $50,000 and Isles was remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending further court action.
