5th Annual St. Croix Tennis Tourney Now In Session

Tennis players from St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John, Puerto Rico, Grenada and Florida are on island for the 5th Annual St. Croix Open Tennis Championships, scheduled through Oct. 19, at the Tennis Club of St. Croix.

Players will participate in Singles, doubles, and mixed double events, along with the popular Men’s Open Doubles and Singles. Professional players will be competing for cash prizes in both Open events.

“The event is well known as the longest and most fun tennis event on island,” said tournament director, Michael Armendariz. “This year, Banco Popular is our major sponsor and we are so happy to have them on board. Bellows/Heineken has once again committed to this great tournament and we could not do this without their support.”

The tournament began on Oct. 9 and features daily weekday matches beginning at 5pm. Spectators are invited to attend the 10-day event.

The Tennis Club of St. Croix is a private, non-profit tennis, croquet and social club established in 1939. The club offers tennis instruction with club Pro Coach Kevin Motta and hosts an active Juniors Tennis Program to develop young players in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
