On Thursday, Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. praised the efforts of WAPA Executive Director Hugo Hodge, Jr. and a local line crew that was sent to Anguilla to assist in recovery efforts stemming from damage sustained by Hurricane Gonzalo that swept through the small Leeward island earlier this week.
The governor was informed that WAPA responded to a request for assistance from the Anguilla Electric Company Limited after Anguilla received a direct hit from the then Tropical Storm Gonzalo.
“Although only receiving the call on Wednesday, WAPA quickly assembled a line crew with members from both districts which included: linemen, an engineer tech and the venerable line superintendent, Vince Maynard,” de Jongh said.
He went on to praise the local lineman who responded to the call.
“This is the type of response that our people are known for,” the governor said. “It demonstrates our caring and concern for our fellow Caribbean people and WAPA’s readiness to assist another jurisdiction in its time of need.”
Members of WAPA’s restoration team that was dispatched to Anguilla include Crew Leader Maynard and Rey Belardo Jr., Romeo Bergan, Gregory Creque, Shawn Dowe, Marcello Jacobs, Troy Lake, Mervin Prentice, Oscar Rolle and Malvern Williams.
It is unknown how long the crew will be in Anguilla to assist with the island’s recovery efforts.
