Detainee Stabbing At Golden Grove

Featured / News / Virgin Islands / October 17, 2014

Sources inside the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility & Detention Center on St. Croix have confirmed that earlier today two detainees were involved in an altercation, and one was stabbed multiple times in the head in an apparent retaliation attack.

The weapon used is described as a machete-like object or a shank. The injured detainee was taken to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment and is listed in stable condition.

Police are investigating the incident and VI Consortium will provide updates as information becomes available.

Last Wednesday, Warden Donald Redwood abruptly resigned his post of eight months to return to the U.S. mainland.

In turn, Diane Prosper, an 18-year vet who had risen through the ranks most recently serving as assistant warden for the last six years, was appointed to fill the post by Dwayne A. Benjamin, Sr., acting director of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Corrections.
