St. Croix Family Doctor, Frank Bishop, M.D., Passes Away

Breaking News / Featured / News / Virgin Islands / October 22, 2014

Prominent St. Croix family physician, Dr. Frank Bishop, has passed away.

Sources close to the situation told the VI Consortium that the doctor was discovered unresponsive in his office in the Sunny Isle Medical Center early Wednesday when his assistant arrived to open the office at 8 a.m. He was pronounced dead by medical personnel who later arrived on the scene.

Sources tell us it was not unusual for Dr. Bishop, who has been a physician in St. Croix for many years, to lock himself in the office and work late. It appears he may have died overnight or very early this morning.

Patients had already arrived for early appointments and were waiting for the office to open when the assistant arrived and discovered the doctor inside.

A cause of death has not yet been confirmed, but sources close to the situation say the doctor may have passed away from an apparent heart attack.

Dr. Frank Bishop received his medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and has been in practice for 40 years.

The VI Consortium will update this story with more on Dr. Bishop’s life and career as details become available.
