Renowned preacher, best-selling author and leadership mentor, Dr. Myles Munroe, 60, lost his life along with his wife, Mrs. Ruth Ann Munroe and seven other passengers in a plane crash on Sunday afternoon in the Bahamas. The plane was traveling from Nassau to Grand Bahama where Munroe was to host a four-day leadership conference set to commence on Monday, Oct. 10.
According to reports, the private plane Munroe was traveling in–a Lear 36 executive jet–was flying low in an attempt to avoid inclement weather and crashed into a structure at the shipyard where it was approaching landing. Eye-witnesses say the plane exploded on impact. The plane departed Nassau at 4:07 p.m. and crashed at 5:10 p.m in Freeport. All nine passengers aboard the jet died, the Bahamas Department of Civil Aviation confirmed.
The tragic news has enveloped social media conversations, making the untimely passing of Munroe and his family a trending topic on Facebook. Monroe’s books have been read by millions and he has coached many a business around the world. Even governments have turned to Mr. Munroe for counsel and countless numbers have followed the Christian leader’s ministry for decades.
The actual cause of the plane crash has not yet been determined. A full investigation into the matter will begin Monday. While some media outlets are reporting that Monroe’s daughter, Charisa, also died in the crash, those reports have not been confirmed by Bahamas authorities.
Dr. Munroe was the senior pastor of Bahamas Faith Ministries International Fellowship in Nassau.
The VI Consortium extends our condolences to the Munroe family and all families involved.
