Mapp: “There Will Be No Scores To Settle”

News / Politics / Virgin Islands / November 20, 2014

Governor-elect Kenneth Mapp, who defeated Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen in a hard-fought campaign, said no one will be “punished” because they exercised their right to vote for the candidate of their choice, and that there will be “no scores to settle” when he takes office.

Mapp made the statement at his victory celebration on Tuesday night in Peter’s Rest, in reference to opponents who may have vocally criticized him during the campaign season. While it is customary for a new governor to select his own cabinet, Mapp said there would be no hunt for retribution against those who opposed him.

“[Osbert and I] will start as the example setters,” Mapp vowed. “We said very early on that when this campaign is over, we’re not going hunting. We’re not hunters — farmers yes, hunters, no.”

“So,” he continued, “we’re going to reach across the aisle and make sure that those that were in other camps recognize that we respect their rights to choose and support whoever they wanted to support, and to do it without consequence.”

Mapp went on, adding that, “there ain’t going to be any scores to settle, there aren’t any people in this territory to be punished because they exercised their right and their freedom to choose.”

The results came in early on Tuesday night — before the predicted time of 9 p.m., when numbers showed that Mapp was beating Christensen overwhelming on St. Croix and kept the numbers close on St. Thomas. At last count, with 80 percent of precincts reporting, Mapp held a lead of more than 6,000 votes over Christensen, with 89 percent of all votes counted.

           WRITE-IN (IND). . . . . . . . . 58 .24%

In a recent video interview with VI Consortium (seen below), Mapp outlined his plans for the Virgin Islands, promising 1,000 government jobs once elected, his strategy to lower the cost of energy, ways to revitalize the Christiansted and Frederiksted towns, and much more.

I wear many hats, I suppose, but the one which fits me best would be journalism, second to that would be radio personality, thirdly singer/songwriter and down the line. I've been the Editor-In-Chief at my videogames website, Gamesthirst, for over 5 years, writing over 7,000 articles and more than 2 million words. I'm also very passionate about where I live, the United States Virgin Islands, and I'm intent on making it a better place by being resourceful and keeping our leaders honest. VI Consortium was birthed out of said desire, hopefully my efforts bear fruit. Reach me at [email protected].
