A shooting on Monday in Estate Humbug resulted in the death of Trevor Pamphile, 24, who was found motionless with multiple gunshot wounds to his body at about 10:15 p.m., police spokesperson Melody Rames has revealed.
According to police, officers observed the unresponsive body of the victim on the side of the roadway, with a white Chevy Malibu registered to his name still idling, and several spent shell casings on the ground. The victim had an empty gun holster attached to his waist, and wore a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and red-and-white sneakers.
Police sources, who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the case, told the VI Consortium that the victim apparently saw his killers coming, jumped out of the vehicle and tried firing first. He was too late, however, and was hit by a bullet above his top lip, and then in other parts of his body.
All evidentiary items were collected by police, and the case is now being investigated by the Major Crimes Bureau.
Monday’s homicide was a continuation of a violent weekend on St. Croix, starting on Saturday morning in Sunny Isle, where police engaged suspects who were attempting to rob the Cleopatra Gift Shop. All four men involved in the crime were apprehended. The violence persisted into Saturday night at the Lower Love gas station, where two armed men stormed the business in an attempted robbery. One was apprehended while the other suspect escaped. Then on Sunday, a man of Arab descent was found dead in a burnt vehicle after his wife failed to pay a $30,000 ransom that his captors demanded.
