November is National Military Family Appreciation Month and The Home Depot stores in St. Croix and St. Thomas recently showed their appreciation for local families of deployed military servicemen and servicewomen by hosting events at the respective stores.
According to Hermeian Leon, human resource manager on St. Croix, families were invited to the store and presented with a home care bucket, which consisted of the trademark orange Home Depot container filled with a variety of household cleaning supplies, including Clorox, Ajax, disinfectant wipes and spray, dish liquid, hand soap, cleaning cloths and brushes, and other items.
Leon said it was the first time the company hosted the event, which saw 15 military families on St. Croix and 19 military families on St. Thomas receiving the home care buckets.
In addition to cleaning supplies, St. Croix military families received a $25 gift certificate to Plaza Extra to assist them with holiday food shopping, while families on St. Thomas were treated to a special luncheon.
Military personnel were also on hand during the St. Croix presentation, including Dolores Edward of the Virgin Islands National Guard and others, as well as Beresford Edward and Verna Walcott, of the Employer Support of Guards Reserved organization. Leaders of the National Guard Reserves were also present on St. Thomas, as well as the territory’s director for Veterans Affairs.
Leon said the event was a joint effort of The Home Depot’s management teams on both islands.
“On behalf of The Home Depot, we would like to thank all those who attended the Military Family Appreciation Month gathering on St. Croix and St. Thomas,” she said. “Once again, we send our sincere appreciation for your selfless act and support of your deployed family member.”
