The Government of the Virgin Islands has settled a lawsuit that it filed against Triangle Construction & Maintenance, Inc., as the two parties were able to “amicably” come to a resolution, a Virgin Islands Department of Labor (VIDOL) press release has revealed.
The suit, alleging that Triangle, a former HOVENSA subcontractor, had violated the Virgin Islands Plant Closing Act (VIPCA), was brought against the company in 2011, however after several months of meetings, the parties settled with certain terms that sees Triangle making severance payments to some former Triangle employees.
The settlement requires arbitration (the process of using an appointed body to settle disputes) to resolve the dispute with other Triangle employees, and the Virgin Islands Department of Labor has been notifying the affected former employees, advising them to come into the St. Croix office and/or file a claim before the deadline of February 12, 2015.
