Nearly $400K In Parking Lot Repairs To Begin At St. Croix Container Port

Business / Government / News / Virgin Islands / January 30, 2015

The first phase of a pavement rehabilitation project, which includes the public parking lot at the Wilfred “Bomba” Allick Container Port and Transshipment Center on St. Croix, is scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb. 2. The project has a duration of 60 days, with an expected completion date of April 2.

Virgin Islands Port Authority Executive Director Carlton Dowe made the announcement Friday.

VI Paving, Inc. will complete the work at a cost of $353,918.

Dowe said the scope of work includes milling of the existing asphalt pavement, pothole repairs, and placement of a levelling course. A new heavy-duty asphalt pavement will be added to ensure positive drainage to the existing catch basin and structural capacity to support loading conditions.

The parking lot renovations will be phased to minimize impact on the port’s tenants by maintaining sufficient parking and access to offices at all times, Dowe said.
