Correction, Police Officer Examinations Announced; New Criteria For Written Exam

Acting Director of the Division of Personnel Milton E. Potter has announced testing for the ranks of correction officer and police officer territory-wide.

The sign-up period is Feb. 2-13 and testing will take place from March 23-27.

All interested candidates must sign-up and submit a completed application package at the respective district offices. Candidates who previously submitted an application are required to notify the Division of Personnel of mailing address changes in order to ensure receipt of confirmed examination notice. A preparation guide for the police officer written examination will be distributed Feb. 02-13.

The division’s recruitment policy has been amended to include new criteria that will allow candidates to be waived from sitting the written examination; however, candidates are required to meet all other established criteria for qualification. The new criteria are as follows:

  • All degrees (associate, bachelor and master level) from accredited institutions will now be accepted in addition to the degrees currently accepted, which include police science, criminal justice, (certain)- social science, criminology, forensic science, accounting, public and business administration; however, all accredited non-related degrees will require proof of completion via official transcript; and
  • All military veterans who served full military service with an honorable or general discharge listed on their DD214

In order to qualify, the division says candidates must have completed the 12th grade or possess an equivalency certificate. Candidates must also possess or be able to qualify for a driver’s license. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen at least 20 years old, but no older than 46. Candidates must successfully pass a civil service written examination, physical agility test, psychological exam, oral board interview, as well as a background check.
