Jama Rhymer, 24, of St. Thomas, died at the scene of a vehicular accident that occurred early Sunday morning, leaving his female passenger, age 22, in critical condition, VIPD Public Information Officer Kevin Jackson announced.
According to Jackson, at 4:20 a.m. on Feb. 22 the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report of an auto collision that occurred on Veterans Drive in the area of the Pump House bar and restaurant, involving a 2001 Toyota Echo and a 2000 Chevy s10 pickup truck.
Rhymer, who was driving the Toyota Echo, was heading east on Veterans Drive with a female occupant in the front passenger seat. The Chevy s10 truck was headed westward and being operated by a 22-year-old male, with a 39-year-old male in the front passenger seat.
According to the preliminary investigation and reconstruction of the accident, the Echo veered into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the truck. Rhymer expired on the scene and the female passenger was transported to the Roy L. Schneider Regional Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
The driver and the passenger of Chevy s10 sustained minor injuries. They were transported by ambulance to the Schneider Hospital for treatment and were later released.
